HISTORY OF THE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
The Department of Management was part of the options offered in the former department of Business/Secretarial Studies. Then the Department of Business/Secretarial Studies was at Ndele Campus under the School of Vocational and Technical Education. This was the case until the 2004/2005 Session when the Collage approved the establishment of the School (Faculty) of Business Studies. The School has four Departments viz: Accounting, Management, Marketing and Secretarial Studies.
The department started with its pioneer Head of Department, Dr. Vincent C. Thom-Otuya (now an Associate Professor) between 2005 to 2007. He was succeeded by Dr. Loveday Okere in 2007 when the then Head of Department was made the Dean of the Faculty. Dr. Okere served and led to 2010 and handed over to then Head of Department Dr. (Mrs.) Nwakaego Chukuigwe.
Ever since and until now 2011/2012 session, the Department of Management has always prepared and graduated students in Bachelor of Education Degree (B.ED) of the University of Ibadan where the collage was affiliated. From 2012/2013 Academic Session, we shall graduate students in Bachelor of Science in Education (B.sc ED) of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.
We currently have (15) Lecturers after the recent death of two of our colleagues and with a student population of about eight hundred (800) .
PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVE OF THE DEPARTMENT
Philosophy of the Department.
In cognizance of the provisions of the National Policy on Education in providing sound education for an egalitarian society, the then Rivers State College of Education now the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in 2005 set up the Department of Management of the university to train and produce quality management/administrative educational personnel who will contribute to national development in the private and public sectors of the economy.
OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
The general objective of the Management Department is to train, guard and graduate competent students who will be able to manage effectively and efficiently all business-related activity and the field of business education thus creating value to society. Specifically, the Department seeks to:
1. Train, guide and graduate competent students who are to effectively and effectively and efficiently manage in the field of business education and management and thus creating value to themselves and society in general.
2. Produce academic and non-academic personnel who will be able business-related disciplines/courses in the university and other higher institutions.
3. Contribute to the body of knowledge geared towards developing students for the total and sound egalitarian society.
4. Propagate the development of management thought and philosophy in business and management practice

Dr. Nchelem Worlu Elenwo is the Head of Department (HOD) of the Department of Management. Dr. Elenwo is also a Management Consultant.
