Ignatius Ajuru University of Education 38th Convocation to hold December 19, 2020 and Matriculation for the 2019/2020 Admitted Students to hold November 7th, 2020.

 

Subject to the approval of the Executive Governor of Rivers State and Visitor to the University His Excellency Chief (Barrister) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON), Senate on Wednesday October 14th, 2020 fixed Saturday December 19th as convocation day.

Senate also approved Saturday November 7, 2020 as Matriculation day for the 2019/2020 academic session students.

To this end, a committee has been set up to oversee the success of the two events. The Director College of Continuing Education (CCE) Professor Samuel Amaele is the chairman of the Matriculation Committee while the Director University Advancement Centre (UAC) Dr Chisa Emmanuel Ibara is chairman of the Convocation committee.

The Registrar Mrs Hope Kue-Ikoro is expected to appoint members who will work with the chairmen of both committees.

Chairman of Senate and Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele while speaking at the meeting said that students who are not academically sound will be asked to withdraw while those on borderline will be put on probation. This move is to enable lecturers give better and quality service to serious minded and hardworking students.

Senate upheld the results of students who on the 15th of June, 2020 wrote the online examination after it was presented by the Dean Faculty of Education Professor Vincent Asuru. Those who did not write it will be given the opportunity to do so. Recall that a total of 707 students wrote the Edu 411 Curriculum and Instruction Studies examination out of which 468 of them passed representing 66% success. Similarly, a total of 614 students wrote the Edu 413 G/C examination. Out of this number, 529 students passed representing 86% success.

Results of final year undergraduate students for the 2018/2019 academic session was approved by Senate.

Senate also approved Adult Education and Community Development programme to be domiciled in the Faculty of Education. The vision of the programme is to promote academic excellence in adult education practices and development through committed and practical research.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) is expected at the university by the end of December for the accreditation of 19 programmes. A committee to drive that exercise has been set up and it is to be headed by the Chairman of Senate Committee on Academic Programmes and Policies (SCAPP), Director Academic Planning and Dean Faculty of Education Professor Vincent Asuru.

Departments are to also constitute a committee at that level to work with the central working committee. Other members of the committee include the University Librarian Professor Boma Beatrice Obi, Dr (Mrs) Nkesi Opara is to represent Faculty of Business Studies, Dr Adolphus A. Okujagu to represent Faculty of Education, Dr Hyginus Oku to represent Faculty of Social Science, Dr Peter Eke to represent Faculty of Natural and Applied Science, Dr Ikunga to represent Faculty of Humanities, Dr Regina Azuwena to represent Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education.

The Chairman of Senate Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele hinted that the University Governing Council will meet by the end of the month to advise on advertising for appointment into the positions of Deputy Registrars, Deputy Directors, Directors, and others in the print media.

Election of new Deans according to the Chief Executive Officer of the Institution will be on January 2021. Seats of Deans will be declared vacant by December 2020, for campaigns and election to start.

Professor Ndimele expressed gratitude to the present Deans for their hard work, patience and for working without official cars and promised that he would appeal to the University Governing Council Members to make provisions for official cars for Deans in the budget for next year.

The meeting featured the presentation of graduate students results for the 2017/2018 Ph.D, 2018/2019 MPhil/Ph.D, 2018/2019 Master's and 2018/2019 PGD by the Dean of the postgraduate school Professor Daniel Ndubuisi Ogum.
